I need to strip and repaint a rear fender on my '23 touring. Has anyone had any experience with the base coat, clear coat being offered by both Rustoleum and Dupliocolor?

I did try the clear coat back on a small part for my former Model A. It was so-so. Nowhere near the clearcoat "wet-look" we've
all been accustomed to.

John...I'm not awake. Here's one of all the fenders I painted on my former 1912, and the splash shield. I used one of those
little Preval Glass bottle sprayer outfits. Used Concept black paint, cut it with the appropriate thinner and a dash of this
stuff to help give it the "wet look". Turned out pretty good. The paint of course was the most expensive part.

Thank you Tim. Some questions: did you cut and buff the Model A part you painted using the rattle can base/clear coat? What brand did you use? The results you got in the pictures look super! You said you used a "dash of this stuff" what was the "stuff". I really appreciate your input.

John and All :.... There was a post here about a year ago using Rust-Oleum brand "Epoxy enamel for appliances" in a rattle can... Post included pictures offenders before and after and seemed to do a pretty decent result

I’ve read where people have used the acrylic lacquer from auto paint stores and having the store putting it in spray cans. I called one of the stores in our town a couple of years ago and at that time it was around $20.00 a can. You would want to use primer with it fo a base I would think.
Just a thought for using automotive paint for a long lasting job.

John...I apologize for the delay. Heres a pic of my "paint system" that I use for relatively small jobs. Or pieces parts like a fender at a time! The small can is the "dash" of hardener/wet lol stuff that I use. It's not cheap but a necessary part of the formula. The Preval sprayer pictured is just the replacement air can, the first kit you would get will also have the reusable glass bottle. They also make the air cans in a small and a large size. I can paint an entire fender with one bottle of pain mix, and get 2 fenders with one big air can.

Thinning the paint with these little critters is key. But once you do get it down, you can produce a very good result.

I have used the duplicolor paint shop system with the preval sprayer with good results. You can get it at most auto parts stores and comes premixed.

I have had great result using Rustoleum gloss black appliance epoxy. The fender shown was painted by me in 2010 and still looks great. Jim Patrick.

Jim, that is a fantastic job. That post was two years before I got into the hobby. Had I seen it, I might very well have tried it.
I know I would! Next time, I definitely will! I'm relatively lazy at my young 65, and would just as soon do it from a single can!

There is actually a different post from the one referenced above that shows the comparison of paint products on Model T metal. I've seen and read it, and cannot find it.
