Show your Trouble Lights

Post by Mark Osterman » Wed Mar 25, 2020 9:16 am

Found this at a car boot sale in Wiltshire, England a few years ago. Has a hand cranked 12 foot long retractable cord. The bulb is a vintage double contact headlight bulb.

Here’s a clip-on style. Uses single contact socket, easy to just clip the wire end to any hot terminal.

Reflector has ball swivel for directing the light.

Like the reflector. Must have had another clamp. That is a more modern reflector light clamp still being made today.

Mark

Hardly any auto accessory today can't be found by tracing it's roots in the Model T era of thousands of new devices :D

Dallas

That is a real nice one, cover goes over the bulb for tool box safe storage. Love it!

Have seen this version in Western Auto, 1923 print catalog. LIKE!

Dan, thanks for posting the ad. Now I can install the correct socket. Much easier than usting a screwdriver to hook it up.

Dallas

Just glad you posted your lamp, haven't ever seen one since seeing the adv. years ago, always thought what a novel design!

The socket may have to have ground to work that lamp. Back in the day were made double or single pole male plugs, and the female sockets to match, normally made flush mount to the dash. That way your lamp can be a plug and play ;)

Ok Dan. I stand corrected! 😀 That design is older than I imagined.
