Bundles of shingles?

Thats a great one Tim. Yup, looks like shingles. Not too heavy but pretty high stack.

That is not only a great photo but a significant conversion. The Henry Ford Museum displays the outfit.

I found one of those trailers years ago, still have it. I knew of one other not too far away from here. Mine needs a lot of work. Pretty neat and heavy duty.

Good grief ! Consider that low band constricting on the low drum gets that heavy trailer with a not insignificant heavy load under way and another band constricting on a brake drum (presumably narrow) to slow/stop it. And all that’s done with only 20-22 HP ! Totally interesting photo ! Thanks for sharing !

The body that’s used in the TT trailer pic looks like a 16 body. It’s newer than the one that’s shown in the Henry Ford museum pic or it looks that way to me.

Yeh, the one in the HF pic looks like a '12.

I believe that neither of the rigs shown, the photo above or the one on the HF website, are TT's. They are regular T's with a Form-A-Truck (or equivalent) kit installed.

Observe the drive chain. The forward drive sprocket is much smaller than the rear wheel sprocket, thus gearing it down quite a bit. Of course, as you said, it's still a lot for 20-22 HP and the T planetary bands.

Estimating the load at 122 bundles, figure 30-40 pounds per bundle, that’s at least a ton and a half to two tons. Plenty to have behind a stock Model T service brake ! I hope there were no steep hills on the route.

I also have to say that it looks like a LOT of weight for a T to pull with 20-22 hp! He would have burned out the low band pretty fast driving in hilly country. And not real brakes as we think of today. OSHA approved ???? Makes you wonder.

Per below, the HF lists it as an '11 already fitted with the Form-a-Truck kit before being married to the trailer, and that due to demand, this eventually became the Freuhauf Brand. As linked by Rich, the Museum lists an entirely different year, likely being the year of the truck's addition of the trailer...so it's an '11 runabout, converted in 1914. The below vehicle was restored by Freuhauf and donated to HF.

Looking at the picture, if the driven gear is twice the diameter of the drive gear, you're looking at a 50% increase in power and braking while halving top speed.

Freuhauf started in 1918,

Perfecto first listed in Ford Owner Dec 1920 and in combination with Form-a-Truck would be a formidable little hauler and would have no trouble starting that sort of rig. Since the Lumber company's truck was the precursor to Freuhauf in 1918, it would presumably NOT have a two speed rear axle as originally configured. Neat vehicle(s) though the original posting is of an entirely different truck than that on display at the HF which is a copy of the original Freuhauf rig, restored by Freuhauf. Both are neat vehicles.

There may be more Sibley/Freuhauf's now than originally...or not...who knows?
