Hi, all getting ready to mount the spare tire carrier pictured lying upside down on the floor.

What size bolts do the 4 holes on the rear crossmember mount with?
What size bolts do the 4 holes on the top of the frame take?
The nut is missing from the bottom keeper bolt. What size/thread is that? Is it supposed to be a wing nut or something else?

I removed a spare tire carrier from a parts frame to mount on my 24 Coupe. They were 3/8” fine thread bolts and nuts like the majority of bolts used on a T. Seems like they were 1 1/2” long. What ever length they were it was long enough for a nut and lock washer and 1/4” past the nut when tightened. That’s as I remember. Maybe somebody has the right answers for that if I’m wrong.

John posted what I was to do, just a 3/8" dia, fine, use lock washers, hex head, hex nut, fine thrd. bolts are stronger. All are the same size.

The rim is held by the threaded stud, thru the clamp, with a flanged style nut, so that it grips best. The upper holes are for locking means, a chain around the tire and rim or what ever you need for the neighborhoods you plan to leave the T on the street overnight

Dan on your last post the rim looks like a new rim. Very nice in the close up. Just wondering if it is.

Dan, thanks for these two photos. It clears up a question I've had for awhile. Most people are missing the clamp piece and they just align a lug to the hole on the frame and bolt through it. I've looked at factory photographs to see what was right but I hadn't seen what I was looking for.

Good to know what the other hole in the clamp does. Say the 3/8 ths OD is too big 5/16th's fits...

Your are correct on the 5/16"x 24 thrd. Parts book shows length as 11/16", but some additional length is needed for certain body styles, date of this Service Bulletin is Aug, 1921.

These earlier carriers were slightly different than the later, esp. in the crossbar design to hold the license plate and taillamp. Of course the '26-'27 got completely different rim carriers.

It sat in the garage for two years waiting to be installed after I bought it from George House. It took 8 5/16ths 24 thread 1 inch bolts. The FLAPS only had flange head and nuts in that size but I think that is probably better than a regular bolt. The 4 internal bolts that go on the top of the carrier and into the chassis beam are tough to get to. Putting a lock washer is even more difficult under those circumstances. I am glad to get it done after all this time sitting in the corner.

Now I only need the size nut for the bolt that holds the lower clamp on.

And the nut size for the stud bolt is...the exact same as a demountable lug nut and probably should be a demountable lug nut!
