This is for sale near me. I'm tempted. It's a 1919 Chevrolet 490.

Forgive me Henry.

It's OK with me. My grandfather was the first Chevrolet dealer in Kansas and sold 4 of these in his first year. One was to himself.

The open cone clutch and the rear end/axles can be a draw draw back to the 490 but some Model T parts can be used in the rear end (there keeping it Ford:) )There are a number of parts suppliers, but get use to sticker shock when it come to price! This is only one, there are more;

Link to VCCA;

They have a section (not real active compared to other sections) for the 490;

I say go for it. :)

Yes to what Mark just said — get used to sticker shock.

These are GREAT cars. I own a very similar ‘18 4-cyl Buick. Both were popular when new, meant to compete with the T but couldn’t, built in fairly large numbers, exceedingly rare today.
Just do all the homework.

If you look closely you can tell that the head is a newer( '28) model. The '19 head would have one exhaust port, making for a unique manifold. The manifold on the engine in the pics of the car I posted is "home made". I believe '28 Chevrolet heads are a one year only and the only ones that are used for over head valve conversions on Model Ts, except for the aftermarket conversions of course. So the car is not 100% correct. :(

I get an error when I try and open the link. And yes 28 is a one year only head. I have been pricing out some work on a 28 Chevrolet engine.

Nothing wrong with a 490, just have plenty of rear axles in stock...
