I am thinking of painting my 1927 fordor maroon, red wire wheels seem to be a little much with this color, i have even thought about powder coating them a non ford color since this car is a driver, straw might be a better choice.

Straw, or I think, some of the original color factory brochures showed fordor sedans with maroon bodies and BLACK wheels.

I think the straw color would look nice with blackwalls and the maroon color thanks for the reply.

If you decide to powder coat, ask your powder guy for some extra powder, a cup would be a lot. Keep the powder in a cool dry place in a jar with a tight fitting lid. That way you can touch the wheels up later if need be. Just add a little powder to some clear finger nail polish and touch it up. Learned that trick in a powder coating class I took last month. $500 for the two day class, but sure had fun!

Wayne I really like that color combo, Dan i hear ya I already have the wheels painted red and what you say is exactly how many were for sure, me i just think they clash could pc them maroon also but i am leaning towards the straw color. I do appreciate all of the inputs.

Just a bit more of info found on the web, with additional letters to the dealers from factory branch.

This letter is from the Kearny, NJ branch assembly plant, built in 1917 to dealers in the area covered by this plant.

This letter is dated early Dec. 1925 and suggests clearly that wire wheels in 5 colors were available to be sent to dealers on order.
Black. Green. Vermillion. Red. and Straw.

Interesting that B. McCalley great work in the Encyclopedia notes that only black was offered in Jan. 1926 and colors much later:

Wire wheels, introduced in January 1926 in black only at first, then in several colors, became optional. These used the same 21” tires as the wooden balloon wheels. New hub caps, nickel-plated steel, were used with the wire wheels.
