Hi,
Any tips how to install or remove a transmission spring without using a hydraulic press. If I remember I saw a post with original solution on MTFCA forum but not able to remember. Any help will be appreciated.

Springs on the bands, or clutch spring? If it's the clutch spring, this works.
Made from a pair of junk hub plates.

I just did this the other day by using my two hands and pressing downwards on the spring. I first twisted it so that the openings between the coils would line up with the keeper pin. Still, it was a tight fit to drive the pin out with a drift. I suppose it would be easier with a compressor of some sort, but the two hands method worked for me and took only a few seconds. Going back together might a little more difficult, but I have managed that, too, in the distant past. Try it with your hands and body weight pressing downwards. What have you got to lose?

Thank you Steve,
Exactly what I'm looking for!
And Marshall maybe I need more C Vitamin to be able using my two hands and pressing downwards on the spring like you. Maybe eating more protein either.

The clutch spring compressor that Steve posted works pretty good. I also made one like it a few years ago. Seems like it came from one of the tinkering tips ideas. Much easier for me than compressing it by hand which I use to do. Good use of extra T parts too!

What I do is first twist the spring to release the detent, then set the pressure plate in a drill press. Using a large socket or tube sitting on the spring, press down on socket with the drill chuck. This leaves a free hand to push out pin. You gain mechanical advantage in the rack and pinion of the press. Remember to leave some room for the expansion of the spring.

I just place the spring in a large vise and compress it. Then I wire it in several places to keep it depressed. Then When I get the spring in place with the ring holding it in place, I cut and remove the wires.
