26-27 Gas Tank Overflow Pipe Bolt

I am missing the bolt that holds the Gas Tank Overflow Pipe in place. It is the straight bolt that is part of the 2921 set in Lang's catalog. It is located in a place that is awkward to get at to gauge the diameter and TPI. It looks like a bolt with the head cut off and inserted backwards would work. You can't see it without standing on your head.

What is the length and thread size on this bolt?

Thanks

It's a set screw - I have one around here somewhere - if'n I find it, I'll measure it unless someone else has one in their hand.

Just looking at it yesterday....
I believe a 1/4 X 28 screw with the head cut off and a slot cut in it will work....

I was wondering what that set screw was for. I saw it when I replaced my gas valve last week. Apparently, my overflow tube has a plug in it.

The overall length is one inch, the unthreaded portion is 0.187" diameter x 0.575" in length, 1/4-28 thread as stated.

The length is important, the unthreaded portion passes thru a .187"+ hole in one side of the overflow tube and presses against the inside of that tube against the inside of the drain hole in the brass fitting. The hole in the tube aligns pipe and the end of the screw locks the tube tight in the socket, like a set screw. I'd seal the tube inside the fitting when installing, as it's loose fit and will leak gas if you do need overflow drainage. It will leak directly above the exhaust manifold.

Does anyone have a pic or description of the 'J' hook that secures the lower part of the overflow tube drain to the firewall? The hole in the firewall for the threaded part of the hook is less than 1/4", maybe 3/16" rod was used for that hook?

Thanks, stay safe, jb

When I first started in this hobby in 1960, I had a 1926. As I recall, that set screw could have been located in two places. In the engine compartment, or inside the car.

I have one 26 T with the overflow pipe bolt/screw hole inside under the gas tank and another 26 T with the hole accessible from under the hood.

With the two different locations for the bolt/screw, that means that the hole in external pipe is in two separate locations. I found out that the pipe on one of my 26 Ts needs to be replaced.

Does anyone know why the different locations?

I found one on the floor of the garage the other day and thought it came out of my crescent wrench.
