On my 27 fordor the spare tire carrier wheel mounting plate is bent in slightly at the bottom I am thinking it should be flat.

On that gooseneck rim carrier, the triangular plate should be flat.

But the plate is welded to the tube at a slight angle so the mounted tire on the rim won't hit the body.

Steven here are some pictures of my 26 fordor rear carrier with and with out the spare, hope it helps. If you need any more pictures I can post them for you.

Thank you both i should have mentioned it is a wire wheel spare tire carrier, and that answers my question.

My '27 touring car spare tire carrier appears identical to the Fordor carriers in the various photos, and mine came with wood wheels.

Most likely scenario was that the carrier originally sported the split rim "Y" and was backed into something - with the leverage of the attached "Y", I would assume it would/could have bent the flat plate.
