Low speed notch

I need to replace my low speed notch and pedal support.
I have to remove the hogs head from the car, right?
There doesn't seem to be enough room to get the hogs head out.
Do I have to lift the body off my Improved Roadster to replace the notch?

Since you must peen a pin (on both ends) to hold notch on the pedal shaft its best, necessary, to remove the hogs head. This link indicates what parts you'll need and how to properly mate the slow speed notch (3428) to the new clutch pedal support cam (3442) that you must buy.

Removing the hogshead from a roadster should be easy. Just put the top down and lift the thing out with a hoist.

With an improved ford, there are the additional 2 bolts and associated cast lugs on the hog's head holding it to the engine. It's a bit harder than others. Removing the exhaust manifold makes it much easier. Some cars and the hog's head will slip out past the manifold...others won't. Either is a bear to reinstall with the exhaust manifold in place and the extra time spent fooling with it on reinstall can lead to sealant problems if you use a modern RTV...wonderful stuff but has a somewhat shorter working life than others

My chassis for my 26 speedster has NO body at all and it was Still a pain to fit the hog head over the trans.Heavy and awkward for me even standing in the chassis.And yes the fit past the manifold is TIGHT.
If you can get some help,it wouldn't be a bad idea.

I have a 26 Roadster and a 26 Touring. I have had the hogs head off the Roadster while it is in the car. Both are identical in the area under the front floor boards. You must remove the bendix first then the starter. After you get all the bolts out under the crankcase and hogs head, and the two at the top where it bolts to the block. Note there might be shims between the ears and the block. If so, be sure to install them in the same place when you replace the hogs head. They help align the 4th main. You must remove all 4 bolts around the universal joint and it helps if you can pull the driveshaft back just a bit to get the ball back a little bit. It will also help if you remove the nuts from the pedal shafts and back out the low speed adjustment. Raise the hogs head straight up as far as you can to clear the low speed clutch from the groove. Then you can tilt the hogs head a bit to lift it all the way out. Actually it is a bit easier to do this on an "Improved" because there are two doors and easier to work on the area around the starter and the low speed links. When you install again be sure to replace the felt seal and put quite a bit of sealer around the ends where the engine, hogs head and crankcase come together. When you tighten the bolts be very careful not to break off the corners of the hogs head at the front. Tighten each bolt just a bit and work toward the end then go back and tighten a bit more. until all are tight.
