Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
The MTFCA and the organizing committee have postponed this summer's National Tour to the summer of 2021 due to all the uncertainties associated with the Corona virus. We are concerned about the health of our members, especially the more 'seasoned' ones.
Also, even if Washington state might be in good shape by July we were worried that members that have to travel through numerous states would be concerned about the availability of hotels and restaurants. At the moment even our members in Canada cannot travel to the US.
The tour committee is working on new dates for next summer and the registrants will be able to either 'roll over' their registrations to 2021 or receive a refund if they cannot participate in the 2021 tour.

This is all total nonsense. It's getting way too political! Shame on the club for not standing up for our rights as American citizens!

Sorry to hear the tour is canceled. Our club put on a national tour several years ago and it is a lot of time and effort to pull it off. Thumbs up to all the people and effort involved. I couldn't make the tour this summer but next year I can. PK.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
Thank you Dhort. My nursing career is now 12 days on, 2 days off. This virus is no joke and I will follow science before politics or media.
When our old cars were new, death and suffering were at home or small hospitals. It was in your face and not hidden. You saw people (adults and children) suffer and die, regularly. Today these illnesses and death occur in sterile hospitals outside of view and outside of mind.
Simply put, we're spoiled today with modern cars and modern health care. I love the history of my car and I I'm intrigued by the history of diseases and the lessons to be learned from disease outbreaks of that time period too. That's why, as a 34 year old young guy, I have a Model T.
Full disclosure, I haven't attended a tour, so I don't have a dog in this fight as a participant. However I do have a dog in the fight if an irresponsible patient infects me which results in my family being impacted.
In the meantime I'll just drive along and use my Model T as a daily driver to work...

Larry Smith: There was nothing “political” about this decision. It was based totally on science and concern about the health and safety of our members. How many people would you let die for your so called “rights”?

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
For me, a few cancellations, staying home and wearing a mask in public is a small price to pay to protect my family and friends. I thank all those on the front lines who are risking themselves to help those unfortunate to be infected. Unfortunately, the age group that the typical Model T owner belongs to is one most at risk.
Covid 19 is no joke, plot, democrat conspiracy or whatever. If anyone was still around from 1918 they could tell you what it was like to live thru a time when 50 million people died worldwide from a similar disease. Inconvenient or not, the desire of some individuals to exercise their "rights" does not give them the right to put someone else at risk. I applaud the MTFCA for doing the right thing and hope that next year's tour will go ahead without the specter of a deadly disease hanging over everything.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
I want to thank the MTFCA Governing Board for making this decision. I'm disappointed that Larry Smith thinks the decision to postpone the tour was somehow political, but I'm happy the board decided that the health of the MTFCA membership was paramount in this decision. I totally support the MTFCA Board, and I look forward to attending the Spokane Tour in 2021. I hope to see many of you in Spokane.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
Tears for the Spokane Chapter,
My father, MTFCA Member 29, and I were very much looking forward to this Spokane Tour. We were committed to going. More importantly, we know how much effort goes into planning one of these and want the planners to know just how grateful we are for the months of tedious work they dedicated to this National Model T gathering. But, as disappointed as we are, we can only imagine how devastated the leaders must be to have to cancel their baby. We are grateful for their initiative, hard work along the way, and their leadership in and commitment to our beloved hobby. My father and I, for two, will immediately sign up for your second try at it if you should decide to do that. Hang in there and stay well.
On a side note, lets not attack our friends like Original Smith for only expressing his opinion. He is a great Model T-er and he is not alone in his frustration that the "powers to be" are steering this pandemic out of control. He was not saying that the MTFCA or the Spokane Chapter are being "political". He is saying that the White House, Sacramento, and the national media is messing up many of our lives with their self serving management of this crisis. Although this might differ from what you think, this is not a far out point of view. So, lets not attack our fellow club members. They are no more responsible for our recent suffering than they are for our low bands burning out. Guys like Original Smith are good for our waining hobby. He's is knowledgable and shares that knowledge, he ready to help fellow club members and does so, he supports almost every tour that is presented to him, and he is an inspiration and fun to be around, especially around cocktail hour.

Just a Thought
As an alternative, the Golden Gate Tour 2.0 is still on for June 1st - 6th in Coastal Marin County and the Sonoma Wine Country. Although we lost a quarter of our original group, we have 11 Ts, 22 T-ers, still very much committed to making this tour happen, (with 5 more cars on the fence watching the reopening). We would love to have you join us "newer new (old) normal" pioneers in getting out of the house for some beautiful Northern California touring, and helping our community get kick-started back to normal.
As of this post, there are still a half dozen spots available.
The tour flyer is here in the General Forum titled; Golden Gate Tour 2.0, June 1st - June 6th - Pioneering the way Back

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
Larry;
How is this political? It doesn't effect your rights at all. You have the right to participate, or not, in scheduled activities. The people scheduling have the right to postpone them when they feel it's best for the majority. I understand you may not agree with it, but overall the majority of people don't have an issue with it.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
To those concerned - as a member of the MTFCA Board of Directors - the decision to postpone the Spokane 2020 National Tour wasn’t made easily. Lengthy discussion on the pro/ con Was held by the Board. Along with the concern over the hard work and efforts Matt Hanson and the Inland Empire Chapter Members put into this awesome tour. No one jumped at the chance to cancel it.
However, to err on the side of caution in these questionable times was made. None of us could live with ourselves if we felt even one of our members contracted the virus ( whether you believe in its seriousness or not) traveling to/from or at the tour and didn’t survive. Our members is why we are the MTFCA - without them we don’t exist.
Myself and 100 others await the rescheduled date for 2021 and look forward to an awesome time in Spokane.

Thank you to the Board for looking out for the health and safety of our members many who are, due to age, in a risk group and also to the Host Committee for their offer to repeat all their set up work for us next year. You are appreciated for volunteering to work on our behalf.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
Dick and Steve,
Here in South Australia, we have not had a new case of Covid 19 for nigh on 3 weeks, and there is only one active case still being treated. Our government got in early with the necessary restrictions, based on the sound advice of all the medical experts available, these experts leading the public campaign of education on the need for the actions being taken. We are blessed with capable leaders who understand.
If I was a health worker in this situation, at the forefront in the battle to contain the spread and at the same time being asked to put myself in danger, I too would be most offended by the actions of those who would put their 'rights' ahead of their obligations as citizens to help protect everyone.
Granted there are way too many of us taking offense at all sorts of behaviours, and some of the responses to these are over the top, but I do not consider this to be one of them.

you guys did a remarkable job and are to be commended. One of the difficulties here is while you have 18 cities over 100K and density average of 7 people per square mile and an almost impermeable border, we in the US have 285 cities 100K+ and 93 people per square mile and a border with more legal and physical holes than a sponge. Noteworthy is the fact that our areas with the most draconian lockdowns are the areas with the greatest number of continuing infections. NY City is locked up in high rises and is still miserable with the stuff, while CA has very few cases outside of LA. None of our experts have heard about UV rays, apparently.
I always figured you guys would beat this thing, but due to logistics and population, we never will.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
Here is a thought, with the Spokane tour pushed out until 2021 why not have two national tours next year, instead of pushing the Wisconsin tour out until 2022. The majority of those from the Midwest who more than likely would not have made the trip out to Washington would be able to attend a Midwest tour next summer. As it is now the Wisconsin tour is two years plus away.

Re: Spokane National Tour Postponed to 2021
An immense amount of work and money goes into planning a National Tour. The participation of as many people possible is what makes a tour successful. Every person registered and participating in a tour takes a huge burden off the chapter hosting the tour. The idea of holding multiple tours the same year may sound like a good idea to some , but in actuality, it dilutes the participation in the actual originally scheduled tour. Please support the Chapter hosting the tour and work with the MTFCA to schedule your own tour in the future.

1918 Pandemic / Ts Burning Alcohol
Goggle 1918 pandemic. MS Edna Boon interview. She was ten years old in 1918 and has a good memory of how it devastated her community. a lot of good information about the 1918 pandemic in her and other survivor interviews and articles from 1918. Ford Motor Company had over 2000 workers out sick and production that year was down about 500,000 cars for a number of reasons. This covid-19 is supposed to be close to Spanish flue. and when looking at reports from the period it is like a crystal ball to what is happening now. except for the Political football being played with it. But many had blinders on then and were in denial just as they are now 100 years later. But the Model T survived and will be here in another 100 years even if in a Museum. Gasoline may be a Dinosaur by then. But there will be plenty of alcohol and a T will run on that ?
