Looks like it is still there! Disgusting stuff that has NO place on any sort of family friendly website. Fourteen replies, I wouldn't even click on it to see who or why, although I am sure most replies would be complaints and likely to flag the offending post. It should be possible to "flag" offensive posts without clicking into them.

Not still there, Wayne, back again. Our admin team bats them away, but then they come back. Kind of the definition of "pest," I guess....

So it has been replied to again fourteen times!
Each reply counts as a "hit", and spammers get "paid" based on "hits". (Sometimes the "pay" is nothing more than points or credibility of some sort. This is why offensive posts should be flagged for removal without being clicked into.
I actually have not looked lately to see if that can be done here or not.

I've knocked off several of these today.

I am now checking if the OT Forum has some different permission settings regarding posting.

They original poster was posting the replies.

Should be able to block not just the account but the IP address from the spammer... we used to have to resort to this on a forum I modded when faced with the Korean or Russian invasion... they have a bunch of pre-approved accounts on the sights, and have them so when one gets blocked, they move to the next one. You shut down their IP on them, they have to go thru a lot worse to get their offensive and nonsensical garbage out there.

Yes, but by the original poster himself. People here on the forum know better than to reply to junk like this. It's a classic struggle... the Interloper Jerk vs. Brancaccio the Formidable. I know where my money is.... :D

RE(block) IP address from the spammer.
My understanding is that is what is done when someone is blocked, keeps them from just starting a new ID from the same computer.

Funny thing is any of the "T" sections on For barn get hit often too, the others over there not so much. There must be something about T :o

Did I see some in the Vehicles for Sale section? There are some that look pretty fishy and I did NOT view them to see.

My current process is to block the user name, email address AND IP address.

I also put a dated note in the system.

It's never ending.

Jeff & I are up to the challenge.

So not to nit pick, but the word "hack" comes with a lot of awful connotations and that's the word we keep seeing thrown around with this stuff. Hacks result in personal information being stolen, bank accounts being emptied, etc.

This is really "spamming" (the digital equivalent of junk mail), right? If so, I think it would put a lot of people's minds at ease to know they aren't a victim of identity theft and the like.

Yes it is 'only' spamming but annoying non the less.

I have blocked email registration and for now an admin will have to approve a registration.
