Ford 800 series tractor hubs fit Model T spindle

Post by Matt in California » Wed Jun 03, 2020 4:51 pm

I image this is no news to many of you more experienced gear heads, but I found this interesting. My dad had pulled two hubs off 800 series ~1954 tractor yeas ago and when I was discussing the price of Model T wire wheel hubs he pulled these out.

I ended up getting model T hubs and you can see the offset is different. Not to mention thee tractor has a larger bolt pattern. I imagine that these would fit even better on a model a hub.

This may be of interest for anyone building model T tractors or doodle bugs.

With the exception of the outer bearing being threaded on a T, the bearings and races are all the same thru ‘48 cars, and IIRC even later F1/F100 pickup trucks (straight axle). It’s no surprise that the tractors would use the same bearing set too

Kevin,
One could use a T bearing on the outside and you are good to go;) The advantage, if you can call it that, of tractor hubs is there are no brakes.

Amazing how things did change much on the front hubs for a good part of 50 years!

Just wondering if those hubs would fit the Model A bolt pattern. Would be nice if it did.

Usually there is not enough thread length on the spindle to run the outer bearing up to the race. This is the case when converting to A front hubs. So either put a huge spacer behind the inner bearing... scary!!! Or extend the thread and register diameter long enough to fit, and cut an inch off of the spindle. Either way... T parts aren’t that hard to find... yet!😬
