1915 side light font ring
Has anyone else seen a font like this one that has a metal ring with a piece of felt in it? I have had these 1915 side lights for years but I have never seen any besides these that has this ring.

Somewhere, I did see one like that, and I think it was mine. I don't know if I still have it or not. But I think it probably went with the '16 center-door I sold about 25 years ago.

Wayne,
I would be interested in the ring for my tail light if you have one.

Ken,
It is a normal looking 1915 lamp with brass top and rim around the lens. Round burner chamber which is correct for a 1915 lamp.

From McCalley's book, page 557:
"MAR 31 ( 1915) (Acc. 509, Letter)
Flanged rings with felt packing supplied for oil side
and tail lamps to prevent their being blown out. The
problem was noted in a letter of March 27, at which
time the factory noted that they were shipping felts
only for in-the-field modifications."

Re: Mcalley's book that the felts were for blow out prevention I also understood that the holes in the 15 - 16 chimneys were discontinued for the same blow out reasons.

Very interesting! Thank you David M and Phil M.
Robbie P, I am pretty sure the one I had went on the early '16 Center-door I sold about 25 years ago.

Re: 1915 side light font ring
I always though those felt rings were for around the bezel, not the font.
I've never seen one. I learned something today.
If anybody has any they would part with, I'd be interested.

Thanks Phil and David for the information.
Wayne, thanks for getting back to me on the ring and felt,
I will keep looking for one to put on my tail light.
