When you buy something

Post by Dan Hatch » Fri Jun 12, 2020 3:30 pm

Guys: When you buy something off the Forums, please but something in with the check that tells what you brought. Just a check in the envelope by it self makes it hard for someone that has many items listed. Just a short note would most helpful. Thanks, Dan
P.S. It will also hide the fact you are sending a check in the mail.

I've learned to NEVER mail a check without folding it into a letter size piece of paper AND entering on the memo line what it's for. My kids laugh at me for doing this. For that matter I doubt any of them write more than 1 or 2 checks a year. No cash either. Everything is electronic.

Bah!

I send a letter with the description of the item. The price. My return address in big bold. Just in case it is use as the label.
Then I fill then second page full of XXXX's
Fold it in thirds, like I was taught in high school business class, and put the dead presidents in.
I round up to the next dollar. Don't want coins in the envelope.

All the years so far. I only had one issue.

I find the guys swapping part to be very honest.

One guy I sent parts and asked him to take a look and send my son, then a student, a Walmart card what he thought the part were worth.
My son did not know why he got it, Just that it was from a Model T guy.

We are all starting to age and need all the help we can get.

One should always add "what its for" on the memo line. That in effect is making the check a receipt as well before you get the item. It acts as proof of purchase once cashed. There are also "security envelopes" that have all the x's so the contents can't be deciphered holding the envelope up to a light. Simply Self Seal Security Tinted Business Envelopes, 3 5/8" x 6 1/2", White, 50/Box only $3.39

The past is a great place and I don't want to erase it or to regret it, but I don't want to be its prisoner either.
