reverse eye spring question

on the front spring I know it should be 3-3/8 to 3-1/2 in height what height should a reverse eye front spring be anyone know.

Steven, where/what are you measuring? Center to center line of spring eye to underside of the arch crown of the bottom leaf? Measuring the stock front spring on my '26 coupe, reversing the spring eye, while keeping the same spring arch contour, would lower the front end of the chassis 1-1/4". I'm sure some of the speedster guys have actual measurements from doing this. Take care, jb

as the spring sits on a level surface the correct height is as i posted above, would a reverse eye spring be different.

The revirsed front spring highth will be about one inch lower as per Speed and Sport / Fast Ford books. Note that the 1926 / 27 front spring is lower crown thain per 1926 spring but either spring will lower one inch when revirsed.

Just happen to be working this out for my speedster -
I re-arched an existing spring myself to a reverse the eye . So in the photo are two used 8 leaf front springs normal and reverse eye. So these two my be a bit lower than when new. The higher spring is 7 leaf (NOS/NORS ?). Lang's indicates that there are 6 (1923-1925 roadster), 7 (high arch 1917-1925) and 8 (1926-1927). according to Land's response 1909 -25 reverse eye - "It can be used on a 1926-1927 spring but it will not give you the full 1" drop, it will only drop the car about 1/2" from what I understand because of the way that the springs are made differently."
So what spring are you working with?

Try not to over think it too much. Use a marker or chalk to record the original arch, then reverse to match that arc. I wonder if any two spring packs match at this point. The folks that sell complete springs may have a spec for you.

It depends on what is meant by a reverse eye and how it is achieved. If the main leaf is simply re-arched to match the spring pack, with the eyes to the top, The spring will have the same arch as before. Only the position of the eyes has changed.

If the main leaf is not re-set, just refitted up side down, the energy in that leaf will tend to pull the arch out of the spring somewhat. That would have to be measured.

TRD your pictures answered all my questions I have the specs on spring leaf length etc and i now know what the arch should be thanks to all here for your help the spring is a 1927 front spring on a fordor
