Info on 27 Roadster

Post by DontKnowMuch » Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:03 pm

My 1927 Roadster has matching engine and frame serial numbers of 13999657. Where can I find information such as production date and dealership sold to? I would like to confirm information I have been told about this Model T.

Thanks for your help.

The mtfca encyclopedia will give you build date for a s/n, beyond that you are out of luck.

from the Model T encyclopedia https://www.mtfca.com/encyclo/sernos.htm You'll need to scroll down to the year. To further discuss the discrepancy I sure pictures of the vehicle will help members identify any further differences. The year on a car's title is always suspect.

Except the very very early years of the Model T, the only thing the serial number will tell you is the date it was stamped on the motor.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

July 1926 build date makes it a '26 model, not '27. I know, my 'September '26 Runabout is a '27 but titled as a '26 to satisfy the state records.

Frank, I will post some pictures. What specifically changed from 1926 to 1927 that would help identify what year model mine is? If I had a list of changes the pictures I post will be the most help.

The top, upholstery, gas tank, and tires have been replaced but I don't think it has been repainted. The coils and generator (which came with the car) were replaced years ago with a distributor and alternator. It has a vaporizer carburetor and a Ruckstell rear end. It also has a Kunkle heater which probably won't get much use here in Texas.

I was hoping someone had done research on Ts with similar numbers and had information from production records. I believe that it was originally bought by a dealer in Iowa and stayed at the dealership for many years through two generations of the original dealership. The family (granddaughter and grandson of the original dealer) said it was never sold and was used primarily for parades and trips to the ice cream shop in a nearby town.

Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know if the Iowa registration department has records of past registrations?

Go to the MFTCA home page and go to research. From there you go to photos and the albums. There is a album of members cars.
You then can see members cars from year to year.
Look close at the 26-27 pics and you can the difference in the headlight mounting. One year has a fender mounted headlight bar and the other year the headlights are mounted directly on the fenders. You may can see a few other differences,
Hope this can help.
