upholstery tool

Post by Mustang1964s » Sat Jun 27, 2020 5:08 pm

The upholstery has been ordered and the new set of springs is here.
Watching the videos and there seems to be tool that is needed for the seats.
The new springs really have a good wide channel for the new upholstery.
They guy mentions a tool that is required and not to use just any pliers will work.
Does someone have a picture of what this tool looks like?
Or have done the upholstery work and is willing to part with the correct tool?

Would help to see the video for a proper reference. But my guess is that he is referring to Hog Ring Pliers about $10 . And yes regular pliers or vise grips may work but will take you much longer. Note the narrow head to get into tight places and long handle for leverage. There was a recent discussion about this https://mtfca.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php? ... ing#p58108

If it is indeed the hog ring tool, I suggest he wait until the kit arrives. The kit for my Runabout included the tool and the hog rings.

He, I think is asking about wide snout type crimping pliers to close up the channel after the material and string are installed, not hog ring pliers.
I know the voices aren't real but damn they have some good ideas!

Don't use hog rings. Ford never used them. Do it right.

I stopped by Harbor Freight at lunch.
They were out. Are these really that popular?
Does anyone have a HF number of these?

They do not show up on the HF website.

Would this pliers do the same thing and work for you?

The one with the red handle will crimp around the cord.
The other one would just crimp the channel and a couple of the videos mentioned not to use the straight clams because the cord will slip out and be impossible to fix it.

I ordered one from EBAY a couple of months ago. They call it a Canvas Stretching Pliers. Haven't used it yet. Still waiting on my top from Classtique.
