TT Solid Tire Felloe Repair

Post by Corvette Guy » Fri Jul 03, 2020 11:11 pm

So, I picked up my newly repaired TT wheel today.

Long story short, it took a little longer than I thought it would as my original Amish wheel guy had a death in the family and then he ended up selling the wheel company to another Amish guy. Once I got the call from the new Amish guy, I went over to pick it up and I couldn't have been happier.

Per the wheel guy, the spokes were fine but he had to make some new felloes. Since the rim had a solid tire on it, he couldn't heat the rim to get it on the felloe, so he used some sort of big hydraulic rim shrinker / expander machine to get the spokes / felloe pressed in. He suggested and I authorized drilling through the rubber tire and rim and bolting the felloe to rim. I'm sure some purists will shake their heads but it looks like a good repair that will give plenty of years of 15 mph service.

He said he'd be more than happy to take on other Model T work.

Plug up the holes with some black silicone and no one will ever notice once it gets a little dirt on it.

I love to see solid rubber tires on early Ts. Great save. Lifetime tires AND a mobile massage chair. Win/win. Stutzman wheel in Baltic,Ohio can replace hard rubber tires if anyone has some that are too far gone. Very reasonable, too.
