Engine Re-builder Recommendations in the New Jersey Area

Post by MKossor » Sat Jul 04, 2020 9:10 am

Checked the rod bearings and shims because I noticed an increase in engine noise during coasting. Good thing I did. All rod bearings loose back/forth play with all shims removed and excessive Left/Right play (crank out of round?) Rod cap for number 2 was missing a chunk of Babbit. That's a show stopper.

Now the dominoes begin falling.... Crank is out of round, re-babbit bearings, check/lap valves/lifters, check/replace rings, check cam and gears, 4th main leaking/replace, check trans; clutch plates, magnets/keepers, etc, etc, etc..... Out of my league here; I'll stick to the electrical system. Time to seek professional help. Interested in recommendations for a good engine re-builder in the NJ area. Thanks!

Mike; almost 20 years ago we had the engine in our 26 run about redone at Schwalms Babbited Bearings in Strasburg, PA . Proprietor Ora Landis runs a strict and clean shop The shop started years ago specializing in Model A rebuilds, but wisely expanded to other makes and Model T Fords. We had them do a short block rebuild and also straightened the engine pan, and Fred Houston rebuilt the transmission. Ora put everything together and the engine has been running great . There are others in the area that I do trust Ora Landis.
