Modifying Rear Spare Carrier

Post by lmitch » Mon Jul 06, 2020 5:35 pm

I cannot find a Rear Spare Carrier for a '24 Roadster with 21" Split Rims. Had a thought this weekend and decided to ask before heading down this road. Would it be possible to use a Carrier for 30" rims and modify it for 21? Would that be blasphemy?

The arms that come from the frame out to the carrier are made quite different. Where they reach the ring, they are dipped in to make them narrower. Advertise for what you need and have patience.

Seems like there would be a 21” spare tire carrier somewhere. They do show up from time to time for sale. It’s up to you if you want to cut a 30” down but be patient. What usually happens when your looking for a certain part you can’t ever find it. But when you don’t need it that’s when it shows up and usually more than one! Did you try Model t Haven or FordBarn T parts? Good luck.

If you want to stay, "Ford", but can stand a little lack of authenicity, why not use a 26-27 touring/sedan gooseneck carrier with the 21" demountable rim "Y"?

Thanks for the input guys. I will abandon the modification idea and keep looking for the correct mount.

They are out there, and by the way, a 1925 will work. Just ask Jim Rodell.

Lee,

I modified a 30" to hold a 21" on the rear of my 26/27 many years ago. If you would like photos, I can be reached at kimrwynn@gmail.com.

This is how I modified a 30x3 1/2 carrier to except a 21 in spare and it can be reversed if you want to.

I have a 24 coupe for my next project. The spare tire carrier has been hacked off for some reason. I have both pieces and cannot figure why they done it. I will check into the possibility someone tried to modify another carrier. Cannot get to it right now.
