Simmons Vaporizer Carburetor

I have been looking for information on the Simmons Vaporizor carb #2042.
My new 1927 Tudor (nearly totally disassembled) has a Simmons carburetor. The bowl seems nearly identical to a Holley but so far I have had no luck finding a source for parts.

I haven’t dug into the attic to see what I have in my old model T carburetor box, but I know I have a Winfield model M I can use if I have to.

Any thoughts on interchangeable parts for the Simmons or a parts source?

Simmons made two different carburetors for T's. They made a straight through side draft carburetor, also marketed by Western Auto under the Wizard name, and a vaporizer manifold and carburetor setup to compete with the Holley vaporizer carburetor and manifold. Do you have the vaporizer or the side draft? Some Holley NH carburetor parts will work with a Simmons side draft, but one part that won't without modification is the needle valve. I've had a Simmons vaporizer years ago, but never ran it and sold it.

In the-posting title and in his lead sentence he identified Vaporizer as the type he is needing info on
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people.

I did notice that he called it a Simmons Vaporizer, but I have seen many instances where uninformed people (and I'm certainly not inferring that he is uninformed) call T parts by the incorrect name, especially on EBAY; examples: people calling a T vibrator coil, a battery, and people calling a T hot air pipe, a vaporizer. Again, the original poster of this post is a former T owner, so he's no novice or green horn. I'm sure he knows what he has.

Hey all, its ok, no problem. I am far from stupid but not half the expert of many i have known. In this case it is a vaporizer. From what you have said so far, there are not many interchangeable parts on it.

Years ago, before the previous owner tore it down, my dad had to repeatedly work on the Simmons. It gave him repeated headaches. In the recesses of my brain i think my dad found a needle for it but I am not sure. At any rate i hope i can find a source for parts so I don’t have to patch things together. I may also have a Holley or maybe a Kingston in the attic i can use. I also could use my Winfield “M” but would need a different intake.

So any help would be appreciated.

The Simmons and Holley float and float valves interchange. The spray needles are the same length but the binding nuts are different and the Simmons needle doesn’t have the little arms that come down to put tension on the nut. The seat for the needle doesn’t appear to be replaceable on the Simmons. Instead of a spray nozzle the Simmons has a brass plug there. The drain assembly is like the earlier NH’s. This is how the 2 I have are. The Holley looks untouched from years ago and the Simmons looks like it has been rebuilt sometime in the past.

You help is great. I am just starting to look at restoration of my Simmons. I know it worked before the car was disassembled. My dad helped the previous owner and had already replaced the needle as I remember it.

I am curious about the thermostatic wire at the top of where it connects to the intake manifold.

I know it will be more problematic than going back to original or even if i used the Winfield I have laying around. But I am hoping to restore it to the way the original owners used it.

It is likely I will rely on you for a lot of advice in the future.

The Simmons straight thru had the heating coil also, most everyone removes them and blocks passage. You could leave the terminal and put a fake wire on so outside looks original and remove the heating coil inside. It really is not needed with today fuels that are not as heavy as they were back in the T days.

I’m not sure about the thermostatic wire. There is a choke spring there at the top. Then there is a lever that a wire connects to that regulates how much heat is to be directed to vaporize the fuel like the Holley accessory manifold for stock T carbs. Heating coil is on the regular Simmons.

The Simmons Vaporizer must be very rare, as I have been doing model T stuff for over 40 years and I have never seen one.

There is a Simmons Carburetor and a Simmons Power carburetor that look a lot alike and appear to be a cross between a Holly NH and Kingston G.

Many of the Simmons parts interchange with one of them.

Both of mine were professionally rebuilt for a reasonable price, so I know all the parts are available.
