Anyone from Northeast Oregon?

Post by Dennis Prince » Wed Jul 08, 2020 11:03 am

Howdy, We are planning a trip in August to Northeast Oregon and wondering if there are any Model Ters in that neck of the woods to maybe visit and get advise on good places to go. We are thinking of using the Joseph area as a base. There will be 4 cars and 7 people, we all have rv's with car trailer, so we will take up a lot of space. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Not to speak for someone else here, but sort of expecting Galen West of Halfday, Oregon to respond to your inquiry,.....???

Besides doing a member search on this site (click on =Extra Quick Links in the above menu bar you can also try https://www.nwvs.org/Technical/Engines/ModelTE104.shtml

......oops! Meant to say, HALFWAY, OREGON,.....not "Halfday". I'd like to blame "autocorrect" for that one, but truthfully, I think that was purely my fat-fingered "oops".

Denny Kehl lives in Joseph, was a member of the Three Rivers Model T Club in Kennewick before moving up there. Is in a book on custom spurs, now. Look him up un the internet. He has a great collection of auto related stuff and old tools.
There are several T owners in Milton-Freewater, Oregon and Walla Walla, WA.

Dennis,
I live in Enterprise and would be happy to get together with you in August. There are a couple of us T guys here in Wallowa County. Give me a call at 398-1550, same area code as yours. I will forward this to Galen and Denny so they know about it.

Dennis,

My first trip up to Oregon was really a trip to take my 1913 T and family up to Friday Harbor on a tour of the San Juan Islands and then up island from Victoria on Vancouver Island.

We stopped by to visit Keith and Yvonne Townsend in Gresham near Portland. Then we went up the Historic Columbia River Hwy. for a short impromptu tour led by Keith in his touring T.

Not Keith's car but what Keith did for us!

I suggest you consult with Keith before you go.

I don't live in the Joseph area anymore but I thought I would pass on a Model T story that I heard back in 1970. An old cowboy and I were sitting at the Riverside Garage in Imnaha one day, just looking at the bridge into town that crosses the Imnaha River. At the time I was collecting Model T parts to get my '24 touring car. The old cowboy looked across the bridge and told me "I remember when the first Model T crossed that bridge. It took them 2 days (45 miles) to get here from Enterprise." He said they spent more time getting it unstuck in the mud then they did driving. Anyway, beautiful country. Enjoy your trip.

David, I heard a a story about that garage in Imnaha was that they were experts at changing brake band linings because most of the Model T's that came down the grade to Imnaha burnt up the brake linings. it is a beautiful place and I look forward to getting the locals ideas for trips.

I'd love to go with you guys, but I'm going on a similar tour in N.E. California the following month. I think your tour would be so fun. Almost every tour I was signed for this year has been cancelled.

Wow, got me beat! That's a couple hours and change by modern iron, or a weekend trip in Angel!

I really got to enjoy when work would send me to the thriving metropolis of Alturas... I could see why people would live there (and not just because covid has avooided the whole area!!)... beautiful countryside and some really great people in those parts!
