I bought this triple twist a couple years back with a speedster in mind,,,, It's time to get my pile of parts put together. Is this crack in the bell fixable? Who? How? The rest of the horn is pretty decent.

Also, how does this mount work? Looks like it fits on some sort of tapered shaft.

I haven't tried one like that but someone who does silver soldering might do wonders with it.
When did I do that?

I just noticed on the close up picture there is a "346" upside down. I had to go out to my building to check the horn out. On the bell is "Blanchard & Co 346". Any idea what this might have originally been on?

Try finding a brass musical instrument repair person. The can repair cracks, remove dents and in general restore damaged brass instruments that our younger generation has shall we say mistreated. They are used to restoring and repairing the impossible.

Brass instruments were my bread and butter when I worked in a local musical instrument repair shop a few years ago. Should be a fairly easy fix. The downside is, unless you paint it, the repair will definitely be visible.

If that’s the only so called defect in the horn that’s not much to worry about. Everybody has their level of how perfect they want their car to be but fixing the crack by soldering or whichever way to make the crack less noticeable would be fine.
After the horn is polished or painted nobody but a perfectionist would notice it.

I agree with frontyboy - it's repairable. Also - there is an outfit in Newton, MA called Trefler, phone #(617)965-3388. Their stated business is art restoration, but they can and will repaiir just about anything - for a price. Typically they will have you ship the item to them, and they will then give you a price. After you recover from that and have a couple of Scotches, you can agree or not. They have three levels of restoration; functional, functional and looks really nice, and museum quality, which may be a bit more fragile.

I know someone in El Cajon Ca who could probably fix that. He is a member of the club, but I don't know whether he has access to this forum. He got his start working on musical instruments and also on brass parts for old cars. Norm
