Natalie Weaver did a wonderful job editing and helping me put the second part of the story together. Part 1 covered the beginning of Ford’s racing program in 1910, when HF told lead engineer Joe Galamb he wanted a racer that would beat the fastest racer in the world at that time, the Blitzen Benz. Part 2 covers the 1911 race season, culminating in Ford’s astonishing match race win against one of the greatest racers of all time. Well worth the read. Rod did a great job researching this article and did a great job writing it. Hats off to Rob.

As a gear head, the technical aspects were the most interesting to me. The holes at the bottom of the cylinders to let out the exhaust at the bottom of the stroke were a great idea. If I every build a speedster I might try that. These cars may look like Model T's but were large displacement race cars with advanced features and heavy duty components. Rob states that they were meant to look like Model T's as a means to promote the Ford car.
