...und too late schmart."

So says the old saying. For approximately forever I've painted nuts and washers hung on wires, each wire with a hook at the top and a few loops to hold individual pieces. To fit them in the oven for baking, I've been limited to five or six pieces per wire.

This morning it finally dawned on me that there's a faster, easier way to hang them.

We all have those lightbulb moments Steve. Age has nothing to do with it.

The difference between "Knowledge" and "Wisdom".
"Knowledge" is having facts, information, and skills acquired through experience or education.
"Wisdom" is having the "knowledge" to not make the same mistake again.

Oops. That was off topic.
Funny how our brains work tho. All of a sudden, we have it. By George, I think he's got it! (English accent required)
On the other hand, when I was working I was talking to a younger fellow and was babbling what little German I knew and he stepped back a skoche and thought for a moment. He said, My Grandma said "Make the light out." Mach das licht ous. (shut the light off). I think I spelled it right!

Why do you paint nuts that should be plated?

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit....Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.

Which are supposed to be plated? Plated with what? Where can I find this information?

What year? Most all of that stuff was raven finished in later years. Some of it was brass plated in early years. Depends on the application.

Steve: Do you degrease and etch those cadmium plated items before painting? I find without doing this the paint looks good but is very fragile. jb

If I have to use modern hardware I grind off the markings, buff smooth, strip off all the cad plating, prep (etch) with phosphoric acid, and paint. Old Ford hardware I have used has no marks or plating to remove. While raven finish would be more correct, I paint chassis hardware with Rustoleum satin black for rust prevention. For body hardware, of course, I use glossy.
