A few that come to mind: Mike Bender, Tulsa; Joe Bell, Ohio; Andy Loso, Minnesota; Adam Doleshal, Wisconsin. There are a lot of others, but those are within a few states of you.

J and M Machine has done 3 Early Model T engines for me. A top tier machine shop with all the cutting edge equipment and tools. They won’t cut corners even if you ask them to.
Its rare that you will find a top machine shop that has such a wealth of detailed knowledge of the Model T power plant. In my opinion ,just the best..

I have to say go with J&M. John and Mike did a great job with my transmission. Now I'll warn you they will find everything that is wrong with your engine. That's a good thing. Imagine if you didn't find a crack in a drum and you tried to run your car. I also have to say that they are not the kind of business who does the work and then forgets about you. I can't tell you how many times they have read my posts and sent me an e-mail giving me advise. Now I don't have any experience with other machine shops so I may be a bit biased. All I know is they did a great job and have been very helpful. So if you are trying to decide:
1. State of the art machine shop (Check)
2. Have lots of experience with T's (Check)
3. Great guys that tell is like it is. (Check)
4. Very helpful after the work is done (Check)

Joe Bell Rebuild engine and transmission
Engine Joe Bell made a house call here today. He just wanted to check if any of his babies were dripping any oil, and that I was taking care of them. No drips and all in fine shape. This one is too purdy to put in anything, but he wanted to wipe it all down anyway. Great guy, but don’t tell anyone I said so.

Depending on locale, and the condition of parts, anywhere from $3,500 - $6,500. Low end range if major parts, crank, block, trans drums are satisfactory for rework. High end range with new parts, like drums and crankshaft.
FYI comparison, Langs offers a basic rebuilt trans only, with customer suppling a decent core, for $1,650.

Hi Bruce. I see you have 19 posts, so I assume you are new to Model T’s. If that is the case, welcome. I hope you don’t take this the wrong way, but, why don’t you rebuild your engine yourself. It is surprisingly easy and fun and is a great way to bond with your T and learn what makes her tick so if something goes wrong in the future, you will be able to troubleshoot the problem, locate the problem and fix it yourself. My T is just like yours, so I know what you are faced with. I bought my 1926 coupe in 1970 for my life savings of $600.00 when I was 16 and before the internet and all the online help available these days, I undertook to learn all about my T by studying three books and completely restore my Model T myself. After school, I worked part-time bagging groceries for $1.65/hr. so money was tight and I had to save up until I had enough for needed parts, so these long waits of saving up my money prolonged the time it took me to complete my restoration. First on my list of purchases was for the three aforementioned books: 1. T-1 Ford Model T Service Manual. 2. Model T Ford Service Bulletins and 3. Model T Restoration Manual. I worked harder studying those three books and learning about my Model T than I did my school work. Long story short, In 2 years, I completely restored my T and still have it. Because I did it all myself, and learned all about its’ workings, if I have a problem, I can visualize the interior of the engine to troubleshoot the problem and fix it myself. After 50 years, I still have my T and almost consider it a part of the family. Please consider what I have said and don’t deprive yourself of a fun and rewarding experience. Good luck. Jim Patrick

This is John Kohnke with Kohnke Rebabbitting Service, son of Herman Kohnke. I am working 24/7 getting jobs finished up that dad had here before he passed last April 2020. After I am done catching up with jobs, I will be taking new work. I was raised in the machine shop restoring Model T's, A's, and many other makes and models. I also have been self employed for over 3 decades restoring cars including body, paint, and upholstery. John, When your Father posted on the form I listened to what he said! He sure seemed to know the correct and best way to rebuild a T and had the experience to back it up. He surely is missed!

Pat TY, and I'm truly blessed to be able to be able to do this work again. It has been very trying catching up in the pile high of back log of bearings, and jobs with little to no information on who owns what, to what stage of the process they were in, to finding finished specs to get jobs finished. I have just a few more left, and then I'll be ready to take on more work. In the meantime; I do have T cam bearings poured ahead, and available now, and I can machine fit them to any T cams if anyone is interested in scheduling them. I do have a couple complete motors to look at, as well as I will straighten any T pans. I can schedule any poured and align bored T, & A blocks, and any other makes and models of babbitt bearings now.
The way I'm doing business is to schedule bearing work for you, you keep your bearings until it's time for me to start on them, then you can send them. If you find someone in the mean time to do them, then that's perfectly fine. If you are still waiting in line, and I am finished with previous work, & ready for more, I will have you send them, and I will start on them right away, and get them back to you right away. I do not want jobs sitting here collecting dust for weeks, or months. That's the only fair way for the both of us. I am still catching up with the back log, but it is looking like the middle to the end of October 2020 I'll be working on new stuff.
I do have a T steering column coming in Oct. to broach fit the new repop gears for a faster steering ratio in older columns. TY, John Kohnke.
