Starter Brush plate Busing question

Has anyone else found that after replacing the Babbitt bushing in the brush end plate with one of the suppliers new brass bushings that the brass bushing holds the armature further away and the brushes don’t completely line up with the commutators? Picture below to further explain. Is this bushing supposed to be surfaced / shortened so the brush doesn’t overhang the commutators?

Add thrust washers as needed to move back.

Thanks Mark but the armature is all the way back against that brush plate bushing that’s why I’m wondering if I should shorten or shave down that bushing.

Randy: When I replaced the bushings on the Bendix end as well as the brushplate end, the Bendix end bushing collar centered the brushes correctly on the armature. I then turned/shortened the brush end spacer to fit plus giving about 0.010" end play. If you can bolt up the starter in your pic you definitely need to add thrust washers on the Bendix end and shorten the brush end spacer. best, jb
