5 lug demontables. I'm sure we have seen that brand but I don't remember.

It may be a 1921 DC plate with a smaller number.

I believe Firestone demountables utilized 5 lugs.

Looks like it has "Department of State" written on the side. Looks like the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the near background. Originally known as the: "State, War, and Navy Building".

I just recently repaired a Chain driven T that had "New" solid rubber tires on it they where made in Canton Ohio.

They put a new slant on solid rubber tyres. With that many holes they are hardly solid any more. I wonder how much better they rode than true solid rubber tyres? At least they should be longer wearing, and less troublesome.

I bet with mud in the holes on one 1/2, they were out of balance a bit.

By the late 1920's solid rubber tires were being targeted by governments world wide because of the damage they were doing to roads.
It was determined a vehicle with such tires caused 5 times the damage to roads compared to pneumatic tires which with advances in technology were becoming as good or better than solid rubber tires. The designs such as those with the holes however superior would have been banned along with all the others.

This is a great picture. The more I look at it, the more I see. If you look directly above the vehicle roof, you can see the top of the West Wing of the White House. When you enlarge it, you can see where the wall bulges out for the Oval Office. Cool!

The tyre industry has now gone full circle! These tyres are in great demand in the construction industry. The old adage applies "there is nothing new under the sun"!
