Does anybody know when the long "notch" on the front rubber floor mat first appeared?

Did it coincide with the "pie plate" firewall shield that was introduced sometime in the 1919 Model year?

Are the 1919-22 floor mats the same as the 1923-25?

In other words, is the following correct?

- 1915-1919 = same floor mat (flat firewall shield)

- 1919-22 = floor mat now has hole for starter button and notch on forward edge to accommodate the pie-plate firewall shield

- 1923-25 = same as above or re-designed due to metal firewall and wider cowl?

This is original mat from my late '24



with all factory cuts and hole for starter. Would assume the mats came with starter hole even for cars w/o battery starter.

I'd like to see a picture of an original 1925 open car floormat. They changed them that year to accommodate the new wide cowl body. I've only known of one, and the owner threw it away because it was in bad shape. Too bad!

My father's '17 touring and my '17 roadster both have their original front mats, which is the tapered mat that was introduced (I believe) in the 1915 model year.

I picked up another original mat, same as above.

My main reason for the original post is I am trying to determine if the above mats are correct only until the point in the 1919 model year when the "pie-plate" dash shield was introduced which means the mat would then need a wide notch on the front edge or if the above mat is correct through 1922 or possibly 1923.

I have ulterior motives because I am thinking of selling the mat and I want to cast as wide a net as possible if I list it.

I do have a 1927 price list of parts book so Dan's post was helpful regarding changes.

Something I've noticed is there is a Made in USA in the corner of the Ford script on original mats. This is something that has been omitted on the new ones. The starter versions have an embossment around the starter switch. My '14 has an embossment around the speedometer cable hole. This is a very early '14 made in '13.
