Has anyone ever run onto a crank arrangement like this one ? Any thoughts ??

Really hard to tell, but upon enlarging it somewhat I'm thinking it's a spring loaded accessory. Wind up the spring, then release it to turn the engine over.

Of course, pure guess......

It appears to be a "Sandbo" hand starter.

Looks like he made the wife do the cranking. Hence the helmet and the missing RH headlamp...

Damm, need one of those for my Mack - with a 4’ vertical climb in and out every time :!:

However, I doubt you could pull a recoil starter on it - especially from the seat.

(I won’t ever complain about hand cranking a T again.)

Pretty nifty ! Apparently you could crank it "conventionally" from outside the car too. I wonder if the device entailed an anti-kick device ? Caption on the photo says "Carey, Idaho, 1917".
