radiator hose
Does anybody know where I can buy radiator hose for my 1926 model t roadster without ordering it from a model t parts supplier? Part numbers? Tractor supply? Agra supply? NAPA? I'm not a big fan of those red hoses Lang's and the like sell. It does not have to be original. I drive my t"s ALOT. Thanks, bobt

Would set of Model A hose work? Just a thought - can the T hose b painted with Engine Paint (good to 500 degrees F)

The set of three hoses from the T parts dealers are generally less expensive than anything else you can buy locally. The red can be changed to black with leather shoe dye.

I went to Autozone and found the same size hose. It was on an elbow and I ended up having cutting the hose to fit.
It is still on the car. My car is a kid friendly driver. It will not be a 100 point show car.

Correct me if I'm wrong. A while back didn't the vendors also carry a Gates brand three piece radiator hose set in black?
I remember a friend of mine installing them on his 1912 touring (however, that was 25 years ago).

Doubt that any auto parts store will have 'sized' hose for the Model T, it is an obsolete auto
What you can find at most, or order on-line are lengths of hose the correct diameter, then cut the hose to your needs.
Upper hose is 2"i.d. x 4" length. Lower hose is two, each 1 3/4"i.d. x 2 3/4" length.
Most lengths are typical 3' or so. Have used before authentic hand wrapped black and red hose, with thick 7/16" wall, good quality. Duplicate of early hose from Restoration Supply Co. Bought length and trimmed for application. Most modern hoses will have some markings printed on them.

When I got my radiator hose at the auto parts store for the 1920 Dodge I had to buy by the foot. The Dodge hoses are smaller in diameter so I didn't ask about T size hose nor have I compared the construction/thickness of the 2 types of hose. I have had no issues with the red hose sold by the suppliers. If you are having problems with it sealing, could it be the condition of the water inlet and outlet that are on your car? If it is the clamps, it has been recommended to use the worm type to set it then replace them with the original type if that is what you are going to use.

I installed a set of red hoses from Lang's on August 26, 2014 (yup - six years ago tomorrow); I have had absolutely no issues with them, and if Lang's is still getting them from the same supplier I would unhesitatingly recommend them.

Sure. I threw my receipt away but the number on the hose is - Gates 24232 green stripe. This only fits the top " ID hose, sold by the foot. bobt

I believe the red hoses in my touring have been in there for twelve years, and so far no leaks. I've had them off several times, and my installation procedures have evolved. I use original style clamps, but I replace the round head screws with fillister heads so the screwdriver can get a good grip. If the inlet or outlet is pitted, I apply a layer of Ultra Black to fill the pits and form a gasket. I smear grease on the inside of the hose so the Ultra Black won't glue it in place. This works for me. YMMV.
I have also figured out that when I remove a radiator to pull the engine it's less hassle to unbolt the inlet and outlet from the engine and leave them in the hoses.

I tried to make the red hoses with OEM syle clamps work, but had tiny leaks no matter what I did.
What ended up working for me was the red hose with OEM style clamps on the lower hoses with a smear of Ultra Black. On the upper hose, I used a modern Gates hose with relatively modern clamps (with a slotted head....from the 1960's) and a smear of Ultra Black.
That installation was about a year ago and none of it has leaked a drop.
If my car was a correct restoration, the modern hose would bug me. But it's not....and it doesn't.
The fact that the Ultra Black will make the hoses hard to remove was taken into consideration. But my thinking is that they shouldn't need to be removed for a long time. My radiator is a new Berg's unit and I change the coolant once a year to keep it as clean/fresh as possible. If and when I need to remove the hoses, I'll just cut them off if necessary and get a new set.

This is topic-drift. The ribs that seal to hoses on my inlet and outlet were also pitted. I filled the rib pits with JB weld and smoothed them before assembly. There are no leaks and I expect that hoses will come off easily when needed.
