Keith is fine. He lives on the south side. All troubles are downtown. He called me today.

If you are talking about Freistadt, I know it well. I grew up in that area, a lot of the people still spoke German into the 1970's. My father used to take me to Boehlke's Hardware to get stuff. When I was there in the 1960's, Boehlke's still sold cases of dynamite. Also beautiful horse saddles. Two of my memories of Freistadt

Hal, We're fine. All the commotion and riots and burning buildings are near downtown within a few blocks of Lake Michigan, and in the uptown area. We're way out on the northwest side and in a good neighborhood.
The riots and damage are bad. Our Police and Sheriffs Depts. have help from area Depts. and the National Guard. We're hoping they put a stop to it very soon. The victim is a felon who was resisting police and tried to escape, but all of the facts are not yet known. The protestors don't care. Many of the protestors came by the carload from outside the area. Two of the arsonists were arrested and came from Florida and Indiana. Our Mayor and County Executive are law and order guys and will stop this as soon as possible.
Hopefully it will be over soon.
Thanks for your concern.

Good hearing from U keith!!! It's good to get a first hand report on what's going on. If push comes to shove we have a place for you and Carol.

Yes, my Dad was a Pastor ar Trinity Freistat, across the street from Boelke's Hardware and the place that had good fish fries.

What years was your Dad pastor? My family attended Trinity's sister church in Mequon. In 1965, when our church was between Pastors, we had an interim Pastor who was a retired minister from Trinity.

Chicago is fairly close, isn't it? Maybe they ran out of things to break and set on fire there, so they headed farther afield. This too shall pass, we can hope.....

Wayne, My Dad was at Trnity, Freistat, in the 1965 era. The fill in that your are referencing probably a Pastor nemed Bernhart (sp). Small world.

I never drove my Model T in the Mequon/Freistat area.

The name Bernhart sounds familiar. I never knew your father, but Bernhart was my Catecism teacher for one year. A fine man, I still remember his lessons. Wisconsin PBS TV has a series "Around the Corner in Wisconsin". They have an episode on Mequon - Thiensville. They feature Trinity Church, the hardware store, etc. If you Google it I think you will find it online. A small world indeed.
