Relatives traveling in the Park last Friday sent me a video of a 1916 touring with a driver-side spare tire strapped on. It sounded "strong" on the sound track; no mention of a wobbly wheel !

What a treat it would be this year. I suspect traffic is more reasonable. Not for us this year. I miss it.

A company called Model T Tours rents a 1915, 1922 & 1926 T for use in the park, for weddings, etc.. They also have a couple of Model A Fords 1928 & 1929. See: http://www.driveamodelt.com/carselection.html

It looks like fun - but I would rather put the money into my own T and make it better etc. (or less bad...?).

Respectfully submitted,

Uh, Hap, that "park" is Yosemite, not Yellowstone.

Yes, the Model T & As for use in Yosemite, we did this a few years ago, and stayed at the B&B Tin Lizzy Inn--it was wonderful. The '15 Touring was our original choice, and as we pulled up to the park entrance gate, my clumsy big foot hit the coil switch and killed the engine (fortunately the car is equipped with a starter, so I could restart it quickly and not hold up the entrance line. The park was a bit busy, so we changed to the Model A to avoid holding up traffic, but found folks just loved the cars--I probably shouldn't have worried. The picnic lunch they packed was delicious too.
It was a great time, and great memories!

Rich,

Ooops -- I clearly need to get out west and visit "the park" -- both of them so I don't confuse them again! So I wonder what the T that was seen in Yellowstone was and who might have been driving it there?

David,

Looks like you had a wonderful time in Yosemite!

Respectfully still learning to read the postings more carefully.

Hap, I truly believe the wonders of both these national treasures are something that cannot be over-rated, and that everyone should see. I hope you can make a trip to see them, but plan to take plenty of time, and go off the beaten path as much as possible. I'm sure you'll love it !

Here's a picture of Union Falls in Yellowstone Park. Three streams of Mountain Ash Creek come together at this fall which at 250' is second highest in the park.

I miss the Park each time I see this post. I'll offer this photo of mine since we don't have one of the T in question.

Bud, got to be the one. Their spare was white. I should note its wearing 1917-on front fenders. Wish I could post the video but I don't know how.

I was in Yellowstone last week and also spotted the T. I was waiting to see if the owner might post a photo, but it appears he or she may not be on the forum, so here you go. The car looked well traveled and had stickers from tours all over the country.

Just imagine the abuse the bands in those "T's must take at Yosemite by numerous "inexperienced" Model T drivers of all kinds,....wonder what type of planetary transmission band material they find most successful,....Kevlar, wood or Scandinavia??? I'm guessing wood,.....??? :?

The car is a cute looking touring, probably a '17-'20 with the brass radiator and hood added. Thanks for sharing the photo.

I would guess those rental fords would have a route in the valley and they would stick to it??Bud. :D

Uh, no, the Tin Lizzy Inn is just south of the south park entrance, and there are some long grades up and down to get into the valley. Of course, once you are in the valley, it's a "cake walk." We started out in the '15, but after going down some long grades I started worrying about the climb out, and turned around to switch to the model A--and found out we had almost made it to the valley when we drove back in. RATS!!!
Yes, having a pick up point in the valley would be good, but I imagine the licensing for such a venture would be horrendous. The price of gasoline in the valley sure was!

You are probably correct Rich. The car had sqaure felloe wheels (late '17- early '18 and on) and they looked like they could be original to the car.

About 6 months before I bought my Model T, my daughter and I rented the Model A roadster from the Tin Lizzy Inn at Yosemite. We were allowed to take it anywhere in the park. I had asked about renting a Model T and was told that they did not rent the T's as they had to go through the engine after some inexperienced drivers damaged them from not setting the timing right. Driving the A through the park cemented my commitment to get an old Ford. The waves and thumbs up made for a fun day.
