Model T TT truck 6 speed

Post by John kuehn » Wed Sep 16, 2020 7:09 pm

:) Here is a 6 speed transmission TT promotional photo that’s really neat for TT truck fans. I wonder if was very successful. There probably was several brands that were sold. The add on the truck says power and speed but I wonder how fast!

I can tell you, not very fast. My TT has a Muncie. It provides 3 forward gears, a reverse and a neutral. All told, that gives me 7 forward speed combinations and 5 reverse combinations. It's also important to know that I have the low speed rear end gears.

In Ford high Muncie overdrive I can get to 33 MPH, but I don't like it. It's too fast for everything else. In Ford low Muncie underdrive you need to sink a post then come back later on to measure progress. In reverse/reverse (which moves you forward) you're barely moving at all.

Driving up that hill to that point? No problem. Going over the top and through the fence? May get a little ruff.

Just wondering if there are any trees on the other side incase he starts to free wheel. Small pines in a thicket work great! Just stating what a friend told me! I do not see a second rod for Rocky Mountain Style Brakes! YIKES!

Well, in any event it's a good thing the hill is a short climb. He's only going to get as far as the gas in the carburetor will take him. At that angle even with a full tank I think it's uphill from the tank to the carb.

That was long before we became obsessed with climbing a hill without downshifting. I doubt anyone died in those days due to a late delivery.

Sort of off topic but it's still about a TT w/6 speed - short story about my Gramps' 1924 TT - I was doing some pruning in the apple orchard on one of my first properties near 40 years ago and was stacking the branches in my "new" 1980 Ford Courier and taking them out to the back "forty" to start a burn pile - well it had rained a bit here in the Greater Seattle-Tacoma area (like we don't get much precipitation !) and the back property was muddier than I anticipated - you know where I'm going here - yep, got the Courier stuck quite well I should say and my wife wasn't home so I fired up the old truck, backed her up to within 15 feet, hooked up a chain, put the Warford in Granny & the Ruckstell in gear, let the TT begin pulling whilst I ran back to the Courier, steered out of the mud, jumped out of the Courier and back up to the TT to pop it out of gear - wish someone could have taken a movie !!!
