McLaren 30x3.5 Demountable Clinchers

Post by meskhov » Sun Oct 04, 2020 12:46 pm

Hi:
Does anyone know if these are still available or who might have a few in stock?
I'm looking for a spare rim for my 26 Touring.
Thank you.

My understanding is that Mark McLaren is still making the rims.
The gentleman who took over the McLaren Wire Wheel business apparently still buys the rims he uses, from Mark McClaren.
I need to contact Mark, but cannot find his phone number. I need 3 each 24" plain clincher rims for my 1910 Brush Gentleman's Runabout. It uses 30 X 3 clincher tires, instead of the smaller tires used on the normal Brush Runabout.
If you are able to contact Mark, please leave the info here, so I can contact him as well about my rim requirements.
Thanks!

Try Langs,
I have a copy of their 2017 catalog and back then they listed the 30" x 3.5" demountable clinchers for $400.00 each plus shipping. If you are going to Luray, I believe Lands will be on site. Good hunting!
Kind Regards,

Rick:
I spoke with Lang's a few weeks ago and they only have the lesser quality New Zealand manufactured rims. The problem is the lug tabs are only butt-welded whereas Mclaren's were a through the slot from behind and then welded. A much stronger joint.
That's what I've been told.
Any help appreciated.

Have you tried Mike Lebsack, Vintage Wire Wheel, LLC? He bought out McLaren. He is in Iowa City, IA. (319) 430-4995. Lebsackmike@gmail.com

Unless something has changed fairly recently... Mike bought McLaren Wheels from John McLaren (father) a number of years ago. Mark McLaren (son) makes (made?) the rims.

Mike may well have some insight tho... would be worth the call

www.vintagewirewheel.com is the website. Saw one of his wheels in Sept. They are a thing of beauty.
