How many leaves are there in a Model TT rear leaf spring set up? The truck I have, has nine on each side. That seems like too much, because the leaves are very tightly compacted together under the cross member and there is no movement what so ever where they attach to the cross member. The leaves have been oiled and are not rusted together.

You have the correct number of leaves. Nine on each side is what Ford put in the TT's. No two should be the same length. The top one is very short. The bottom one goes from the anchor bolt to the hanger assembly at the perch. Somewhere in the middle there should be a spring clamp.

Yes, they are very stiff. They don't give very much until you put a pretty heavy load on the truck. It'll ride rough when empty.

From the parts catalog... Although the top leaf is very short, they are often found broken.

When I took mine apart one of the little top leaves was broken and the other was missing altogether. I don't see how there can be much flex at the top of the stack. It's hard (at least hard for me) to understand why they are so commonly found broken.

I tested my springs this week with a pallet of concrete, rebar, and some forming
lumber. Forty-two 80lb. sacks pencils out at 3360lbs. I discovered why Ruckstell
low was an option, when I hit a few of the hills !
