15 YEARS OLD, FIRST CAR, IT'S DRIVING!!!!!!!
I am 15 and I have a 26 touring. I have had it running for weeks but just got the wheels on and linkages connected. I took it for a 3/4 mile test drive and it drove great!!!! Hasn't driven for 40 years!!!

Re: 15 YEARS OLD, FIRST CAR, IT'S DRIVING!!!!!!!
I hope you greased and adjusted the front wheel bearings. You very likely did so, but if not, be sure to check them out and grease them before you drive it again. Also be sure to oil the oilers. The T is not like a modern car with sealed bushings which don't get greased. The oil in the T tends to drip out, and water gets in when you go through puddles, so it needs to be oiled often. Every few days if it is a daily driver and before each time you drive it if only occasionally. Also with the splash oil system in the engine, you should let it run a little while before you start driving it, so the oil has a chance to get into the inner parts of the engine.
You sound as though you have great mechanical abilities, and have been very eager to accept advice.

Thank you, I am already starting the process of greasing the bearings. Will axle grece work fine?

Just go get a bucket of the red stuff from the parts store. I think it’s labeled as wheel bearing grease. Good stuff to have on hand.

Re: 15 YEARS OLD, FIRST CAR, IT'S DRIVING!!!!!!!
I just go to the local Farm store to buy grease. I dont like the red because you can see it. The clear that looks like vaseline is what I use. I also use 10W30 oil that I purchase at same store. I also use Prestone antifreeze as I can buy it anywhere. Some generic antifreeze is not compatible with other antifreeze. I use the above oil for my springs and tie rods. Some use chain oil because it is thicker - your choice. Then I put Startron in my tank for the winter, and drain the carb. Nuf said.

Re: 15 YEARS OLD, FIRST CAR, IT'S DRIVING!!!!!!!
Jonah, I use chainsaw bar oil. It's very sticky and stays around longer than usual straight 30wt, which is a good thing in worn bushings. Lighter oil in the timer and fan. Others may dis agree.
Well done. That first start always brings a smile to my Son's face, and the first ever drive had him grinning like a Cheshire cat!

Re: 15 YEARS OLD, FIRST CAR, IT'S DRIVING!!!!!!!
Just personal opinion here, but I buy grease cartridges for my grease guns at a marine store. It's especially made for boat trailer wheel bearings, and I just figure that if it's good for boat trailer wheel bearings that are submersed regularly in water during launching (especially salt water) I would think it should also be about the best you can do for Model T unsealed bearings and chassis lube points that are also subject to water as they are unsealed. FWIW,.....harold

Well done young man! Don't stop learning, and don't believe everything you read on this forum! Understand the information in the Ford Service book, and you are on your way. I realize there is little information as far as pictures go in there, but there is plenty elsewhere!
