Engine Removal 1923 Touring
I have the misfortune of recently joining the 2-Piece Crank Shaft Club. So to pull the engine from my '23 do I need to remove the firewall? The re-pop wooden firewall has space removed on either side to clear mounting arms. So after unhooking everything and drop the radius arms will the engine come out with the firewall in place?

It should. You have to lift the front of the engine really high to get the pedals under the firewall.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Engine Removal 1923 Touring
I have removed the engine from my 22 without removing the fire wall. I detach the steering column and slide it into the car as far as I can. Then with the exhaust removed and detach the fuel line and carburetor. Remove the bolts at the crankcase ears and cap from front mount. (I think that's all I detach) Then I put a ring which has been attached to the base of an old spark plug in the Number 2 position in the head and with a chain hoist, I raise the front of the engine enough to clear the front frame member and as I raise the front of the engine I roll the car back until I can tilt the front of the engine enough to get the pedals under the firewall. This method will work on most models. I have even used it on a 17 touring and on 26-27 cars. While the engine is up on the hoist, I roll an engine stand under it and attach to the stand so I can move the engine in any position I need to.

What Norm said.... don’t forget to remove the radiator . And drain the oil unless you want 3 + quarts on the floor.
I don’t know why I turned out this way. My parents were decent people.

Re: Engine Removal 1923 Touring
I pulled and reinstalled engines from my 24 Touring without removing the firewall or loosening the steering column.
You have to sort of twist the engine while it's coming out (and in) so that the pedals go around the steering column. I did it by myself and it was do-able but difficult....but it would be pretty easy with a helper.
