Model t radiator refurb

Post by 1923orange » Wed Oct 21, 2020 9:09 am

Just wanted to show off my newly refurbished model t radiator. My 1923 touring was overheating after just a few minutes of run time. No one around here wanted to take the time to refurb or recore. I was able to contact motor mission in Las Vegas Nevada. Jimmy and his team out there were extremely professional and knowledgeable, these people rebuild radiators of every size. Upon receiving my radiator Jimmy tested to make sure the radiator was clogged, and by the pictures you can see that it indeed was. Motor mission could have charged me double and just said the radiator needed a core, however they put forth the effort and was able to refurbish my existing radiator. I'm super pleased and will come out MUCH cheaper than I could have bought a reproduction for.

Very interesting. It appears that you have a flat tube core so was the radiator already replaced at some point?

Looks good.

The shops you first took your radiator to probably didn’t take the time or look closely and notice it was a flat tube radiator. Probably when you told them it was a Model T radiator that was what was a no go for them.
Most radiator shops nowdays won’t deal with old or antique car radiators. It just scares them off and will sometimes tell you they don’t work on old stuff.
If you find a shop that works on tractor radiators they are the ones that might still repair the older radiators and there usually found in farming communities.
You were lucky your car had the core replaced sometime back and not that long ago going by the looks of it.
If your cars radiator still had the original round tube core still in it you probably would have been out luck and would have to have spent money on a new recore or radiator.
Good luck.
