FYI © craigslist Harrisburg. Advise needed on fixing 1926 Model T (Dillsburg)
Our teenage boys are trying to restore a Model T . Currently they are having trouble removing the clutch basket. Is there anyone out there that is familiar with these automobiles? We don't mind paying someone a reasonable price to come out occasionally and help our boys with this project, we just don't want them to get discouraged when they run into an obstacle. https://harrisburg.craigslist.org/pts/d ... 01949.html
Sounds like two Young recruits for the Hobby if someone can take them under their wing and put them on the right path.I sent them a e-mail and advised joining the Forum / MTFCA and finding a local club to help out. and buy Model T books especially the ones covering transmissions and clutches. contact name:Lisa (717) 432-8449.

Jim, by all means encourage them!! Hopefully someone will read this and get in touch or point you to a local T club. Meanwhile, I presume you are talking about the pack of clutch discs inside the rear drum on the transmission. They can be well stuck together with old engine oil, and occasionally rust if they have not been used for a few years. You have to break that surface tension between the plates. I use a couple of right angled seal picks lever them apart and out of the drum, one at a time. If the square lugs on the drum are badly worn, every second plate which engages those lugs may also be hung up on the lug. Wobbling the drum back and forth should allow you to disengage the worn lug from the plate and it is lifted out in the same way.

When prying the discs out make a note of the last disc in the bottom so that it goes back together the correct way.

You will probably want to remove the clutch dis drum too. You will need the special puller that Ford made for doing this.

I called the number for Lisa got Fred. said the Boys were interested in restoring the car and not making it a hotrod. said car barley ran when they got it. and they were having a devil of a time trying to get the clutch out. I hope they knew how a model T clutch works before they tried to fix it. since it may have been working. and unless You know that the model T clutch is only engaged when the pedal is half way down and to the floor is first gear and all the way off is high gear. advised them to get on the form here. and talk to the folks that have been there and done that when it comes to model T servicing.
