WATT Clutch disc stack height please? Save me from disaster

Hi, I'm working on my 1913-1914 Transmission and it have a 5 watt discs inside. I would like to know what the height is required? Is it the same height as the original stack wich is 1 1/8" on the later transmissions? The procedure said starting with the thinnest WATT external disc and add 2 internal discs alternately until to the end and finish with a WATT external disc. Actually my transmission is always engaged, so I thought I need to remove one internally disc in the goal to be at 1 1/8" like on the later transmission . Which internally disc I have to remove ? Removed the last one ? or in the middle?

That formula is for the later brake drum and clutch hub that is replacing 12x13 plates.
First what year parts you are working with? your 13/14 if original would have a distance plate and 13x13 plates. That distance plate would still go in first, then build your stack. Myself, I fit a steel small disc between the last fibre and the clutch push ring, as for the height of the stack, that can be worked out by how far your adjusting finger screws end up, to far in or to far out, ad another small plate at the push ring if needed or remove one of the double ups in-between the watts plates.

Last night, I was working to intalling WATT clutch and I found a little crack on my break drum. I just touched the crack slightly with my finger and a piece of the drum fall down... It is not a fun discovery but that save me from a disaster for sure. My friend Hank will help me to fix that. We never know what we will discovering when we open the heart of a Model T Ford. I thought I'm lucky with my unfortune discovery. That will postpone my project but that gave me the opportunity to make it right for another 100 years...

All the drums should be magnefluxed prior to assembly - I don't like surprises !

If yours is the early brake drum, you need the distance plate at the bottom or the disk on the bottom of the stack will slide under the casting and lock things up. The distance plates I have are about = to three disks.

I'm a little late chiming in here, but the Watts stack is normally a little thicker than the standard Ford clutch. That's why the T-3336 push ring needs to have the three pins machined shorter. That's also why I sell the Watts style clutches as kits with the stiffer springs and with the machining operation already done to the included push rings. Ultimately the only "stack" measurement that matters is the 13/16" distance between the drive plate and the release ring when all is assembled. then the clutch is adjusted from there in the usual Ford manner.

Thank you RV for your comments. I have followed your advices :
On early (pre-’16) transmissionss, proceed as follows: Install the thick steel spacer disc first, then one Watts Style disc, then 2 original “small” steel discs. Repeat with another Watts Style disc, then 2 more “small” steel discs, and so on until you have installed all 8 “small” steel discs and all 5 Watts Style discs. The thin Watts Style disc must be the last disk in place. As you install each disc, apply a good film of oil to all surfaces. Do not flood the clutch with oil but a good, medium film is necessary.
My drum look to be a late drum instead of early Drum... See the picture bellow. I also have another question because when I compare WATT side discs with your procedure it's look higher compare Ford stock discs... The Ford Discs together is 1'' 1/8 height. May I miss something here? I have no experience with WATT discs.

As I posted above, and as is borne out in your photo, the Watts style stack is thicker than the Ford stack. That's why the push ring pins have to be shortened to compensate.

Early drum have the flanged bushing. The late drum has the standard sleeve style. I'm Always learning every day with Model T.

Dont expect the 13/16 inch distance to work with a Watts clutch even with ground push ring studs. Compress the spring to 2 1/16 inches.
