I have a head that I got resurfaced and somehow missed inspecting the plug threads. Do tapered pipe helicoils seal ok?
One looks like it has a hacksaw slot cut in side.

Did it have a leak in that hole before you had the head resurfaced?

I have done the repair using genuine Heli Coil a number of times with very satisfactory results!!

Buying a Helicoil kit seems like a good option since I already paid to get it surfaced. Even better is the brass plumbers 3/4 to 1/2 adapter in Mark's link. It will be easy to set it up in the mill and install the bushing. I may do all the holes since another one is loose fit.

Loc n Switch makes pipe thread inserts.

Check out "Time-Sert". Pricey but superior to Heli-coil in my opinion. Just the thing for stripped threads at the universal ball cap in the oil pan.

I also prefer Timesert/Keyserts. They come in a range of outside diameters which means you can make repairs to oversized holes also. Each may be more expensive than a helicoil, but I can buy them individually, and they have standard threads on the outside, so I don't have to buy an installaton kit.
