I also have a Jeep and am on a Jeep forum. Jeep is coming out with a pickup after decades of no pickups at all. One of the videos shows a model with a fold down rag top. They mentioned it was the first ever folding rag top pickup. Now it looks great and the Jeep world has been waiting for this truck for a long time. But I had to bring up the model T Roadster pickup made 100 years ago. I haven’t checked the responses yet but I expect to get an ear full. I have a 26 Roadster and would love to make it a pickup someday. They are just too cool.

It is so bizarre that so many people, even people with a connection to history themselves, seem to have an arbitrary cutoff at where they somehow believe history began??? I don't know who are worse? The people that have some knowledge or connection to history, but only think after some point in the fairly recent past matters? Or the really clueless people that honestly believe that the whole world, all the technology? All the rest of the people? All simply sprang into existence just for them to live in! Even a small amount of knowledge should inform them that something existed before?? The completely clueless certainly are fools of the first order! But at least their cluelessness can partially explain their total lack of understanding of even the most basic of facts of existence.

Of course, given enough "definitive qualifiers", one can justify almost any silly assertion.

My rant for the month.

Of course it could be argued that if the Jeep has roll down windows it is not the same.

This is a massive over-simplification of a many-faceted subject, but to make it short
and simple, .... most people's drive in life is for two reasons:

1. Intoxication, and

2. Sex.

All things like ethics, service beyond self, knowledge/history are considered either
bothersome, or a waste of energy, and certainly get in the way of the pursuit of those
two things that drive them.

If the chevy SSR didn't count you'd think the earlier jeeps would.
Or you know... like.... a model T i have, it's only 97 years old. Certainly not as old as a car that only came out this year. Such an innovation.

The Dodge Dakota Sport was a convertible pick up made in limited numbers. Made in the mid 1990's.

Apparently Jeep doesn't remember their own either...

Who made the first mini-van?
Volkswagen first van was 1949. Chrysler claims they were first.

The real Roadster Pick Up. First steel pick up bed made in a long line of vehicles today known as a pick up truck. F-150 is the descendant.

This is a good illustration of what people don’t know. It’s amazing isn’t it. There are folks who come out with ideas that they think are brand new but in reality have been around before and have come back again.
Anybody heard of the phrase “what comes around goes around”?
In this fast moving world Model T’s seem to just keep on going and back again!

Gary, I don't have any proof, but I heard it on a fairly recent TV commercial.

I would think that the Jeep station wagons from the 40's/50's would qualify as SUV"s although I don't think the term SUV came till later. Jim

Very nice Steven. I did not want to get too far OT. I thought it would be good to point out how some facets of the humble model T are being used and sometimes reinvented in today’s vehicles. The Ts are proving to be more than just a look into the past. We keep them up. Restore them to their original grandeur. We are preserving history. I just think it is so interesting that today car makers are still taking cues from the humble model T nearly 100 years later.
Or it could be the drugs from my cancer surgery are still making their way out.

I still can't get used to this new forum. Here is a photo of my 1925 pickup, which is the first year Ford made them.
