CAR COVER PROBLEMS?

Post by John Dow » Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:11 pm

Do car covers like the one shown on my '23 touring cause rust problems? The car is parked in my dry garage and this cover breathes somewhat.

Well you sorta answered your question. Breathing is the main thing. But I always worry about dust getting
in under the cover...yes it CAN happen..and then ANY movement of the cover can start paint chafe. I NEVER covered
my sailboats over the years during winter, against all my peers snickering and jeering, yet MY boats, even after years
of winters, looked like "factory fresh" compared to others. Yes, indoors you don't get the breeze blowing the cover, but
you can still get chafing. I just don't like things touching paint! IF I do cover them, it's for short periods of time, and I use
soft flannel bed sheets just draped over the car. Another concern is "garage rot"....put cardboard or preferably a plastic
tarp under the car...keeps moisture from the floor causing rust underneath.
