26/7 Touring taillight

Post by Mopar_man » Mon Nov 16, 2020 6:53 pm

So I have to replace my taillight. Most of it was missing. I bought a new one from Lang's as well as the three bolts and support plate for the back. The question I have is: Where does the taillight wire come from to connect it? Should there be a hole in the fender or bracket? Does it just come out the back of the car and up the fender?

The touring rear fender won't have a hole for the tail light wire. So it wraps under the fender.

Have seen some '27 coupe and runabout fenders with a hole for the wire, as the fender doesn't stick far back from the body. Plus that style fender has a flare to the body

This is Ford factory photo from loading freight car of a '26 runabout, on this one the wire just goes under the fender.

Very good pic of car in boxcar Dan. It also shows another important feature. Cars were shipped without a spare tire. Just the spare rim.
Very good work showing that pic. Dan

They were sold without a spare tire as well, unless you paid extra for one.

There should be a clip with a spring on the frame near the taillight then from there the wire goes under the edge of the body next to the fender up to the taillight. You can get a two wire socket made for a stop light and have two wires in the same place. The stop light is wired from a switch operated by the brake pedal One side of the switch is connected to the hot wire (I use the post at the starter switch and add another wire to the stop switch and the other wire from the switch goes to the stop light inside the tail light. There are several types of stop light switch. See vendor's catalog for types. Some won't work with a Ruckstell axle. Mine mounts behind the cross brake shaft and has a spring to connect it to the pedal shaft so when you push the pedal it operates the switch and if you push the pedal down farther the spring will stretch.

Thanks everyone. I was going to ask about that spring and clip. I bought one from Lang's does anyone have a picture of one in place?
