Could this set up be used on a T?

Yes it is for Model T car or truck. This style could be used on earlier cars without starting equipment or later ones with.

I saw this on the classified adds here and would like to know if the cam gear requested in the add is the same needed for this mag set up?

Yours looks complete Great find! The gear in question is for a different application. The mag you have fits the generator cars.

This is a Columbo magneto setup. I see the gear in the photo. All I do not see is the "pin drive" that screws to the cam shaft and drives the gear. It is more than likely just not visable in the photo. The gear and pin drive are available in Langs catalog. They are very nice high quality parts. I also see that the fan bracket is there. It is usually missing and is very hard to find.

It looks like a very nice setup to me. As mentioned above it fits non starter early engines as well as later starter engines.

Donnie could you discribe the fan bracket? I will be going back to the collection this Sunday and will spend some time looking for it.

He is talking about the part mounted to the casting that holds the fan arm is sometimes missing, your is in place. The arm and fan would be the standard T parts for what ever the type of radiator is on the car; short arm for brass, long arm for black. If used on 1926/27 the normal outlet mounted fan would be used.

The casing was made so it could be install on ether, that is why the oil filler tube does not open into that area. The casting seal area follows the outline of both style timing gear covers. The area where it would have covered the generator support casting would just stick out the side unused.

Craig. The fan bracket is not missing. It is the little brackets at the top of the casting. After looking at the photos again I also see the "pin drive" in the second photo. It is the part with the four pins and the four little springs. I also see the magneto couplikg that is usually missing. It is the little spring steel cover that fits over the magneto input shaft. It is necessary for proper timing. There is a small "key" attached to the inside of the spring steel coupling that fits into a group of keyways on the magneto and also the output shaft of the engine casting. 1/2. of the key way is on the input shaft of the mag and 1/2 is on the output shaft of the engine. With the engine at timing position and the mag set at points just starting to open there is only one pair of the 1/2 keyways that line up. That is the pair of 1/2 keyways you insert the key on the spring coupling into. It is an ingenious way to have infinite timing ability. It sounds complicated in my description but it is a very good.timing system.

From what I see this is a complete unit of a very desirable magneto setup.
