Rest in Peace - Bob Barrett

Today my friend Bob Barrett went on to his final rest. He passed away on Sunday December 6 after a long illness.

While Bob was often seen in other cars like Pierce Arrows, Buicks, and Stanleys; Bob also collected Fords. When I would visit him before various Christmases he would enjoy taking my son and me for rides in the snow to prove a T cannot get stuck. Bob was a gifted engineer and machinist who could make cast iron rear brake drums for a T or a hydraulic brake system for a Stanley. His work restoring an American Underslung was flawless.

Bob and his family were fixtures at the Old Car Festival. Our families met because his son drafted my son to ride beside him on his side by side bicycle. Fortunately his wife, son, and daughter all plan to continue enjoying Bob’s cars.

It was Bob who convinced me of the need to visit Hershey and Chickasha. He inspired my son and me to make us realize no job was impossible. Once when his Buick broke a valve on the way to the Old Car Festival he fixed it with a bolt from my junk box and my welder.

I'm sorry to hear this. Friends like that are real treasures.

Bob was incredibly gifted, and an all around great guy. He helped with a portion of my Model K restoration, and had a wit and intellect that was fascinating. We’ll miss him.

I didn't know Bob, but it's obvious that his passing is a loss for all of us. My condolences to his friends and family.

We keep losing our legends... Bob, you will be missed by a LOT of us. And when you see my dad up there, tell him I love him, and thanks.

BTW - I still have the Pierce tail light. It is a dear treasure to me, and plan on using it on the "speedster" project.
