Luxor valet parking

Too much fun in Las Vegas. Drove the Strip today in the T.

Valet parking was interestingly the Luxor. It turns out the valet’s grandfather was one of Henry Ford‘s best friends. He was a violin player as was Henry Ford and henry ford loved the guy.

His name was Albert Hallup and played violin and cimbalom.

I have never had a valet that has offered to park my ‘14 touring for me. Typically, they open a spot up close and let me park the car myself. When I drove my T to work in Burbank and then to my department’s holiday lunch in Glendale, CA. in December, the valet captain had a minion move a brand new Bently Continental GT to a spot deeper in their garage to let me park next to their key station. Before I could walk away, I was persuaded by a few young women to let them take “selfies” with me and the car. It’s funny that around the movie studios, Ferraris, MacLarens, and other exotics seem to be no big deal, but driving a hundred year old car can really get someone’s attention.

Way back when, in the 80's, Hot August Nights in Reno was a fun event. I used to take my dump truck there and it was a hit like it always has been when you show it with big money trailer queens. I would have a few friends with lawn chairs and a cooler in the back and we would hit the A&W drive through. We did the parades with it too. This was when all these events were free to enter and you did not have to pass a background check to get a space at the swap meet. One year I had made a few bucks at the meet and A&W wasn't going to cut it so I drove the TT down Virginia Street for dinner at Harrold's club. Turns out ol' dumpy is too tall to enter the parking garage. We were going to bail and the boss came and said don't leave, we have a place for you! They parked us in front of the main entrance and comped is drinks at the bar and dinner after they had so much traffic in the front door. They also made the call for a taxi for us and had people watch the truck overnight. Great memories.

My truck gets the same response everywhere I go. I have owned post-war oldies since getting
my license in the 70's, but none get the kind of positive response the old truck gets. It really
makes people happy to see it, ... my favorite part of ownership.

Christ, this town has a lot of stop lights....
At least I discovered Dean Martin pkwy today.. yesterday we hit 22 lights on my way to my new office and we had 1 green light. Tomorrow we’re skipping the craps tables and betting over and under on how many green lights we get as we cruise

I get a kick out of the valet parking stories. Mine is OT, since it has doesn't have to do with a T. Back in the 1980s, I had a Citroën 2CV that I often used as a daily driver. One day I was attending a luncheon at the Missouri Athletic Club in downtown St. Louis, and I drove the 2CV. I pulled up to the entrance and the valet motioned me out of the car and handed me my ticket. When I came out after lunch, they explained to me that no one had been able to figure out how to drive it, so three guys had pushed it to an empty parking space. I volunteered to go get it myself.

Unfortunately, I only have a few photos of the car.
