Sidelights 1924 Coupe?

Post by Dan Hatch » Wed Dec 16, 2020 3:06 am

Had a friend ask me about sidelights for a 24 coupe. Had to admit that I could not remember seeing a coupe with them. Does anyone have pictures of such. I guess I never noticed one, sure they were there. Thanks Dan

For all practical purposes, NO model T Ford coupe was fitted with sidelamps from the Ford factory after about January of 1919. The removeable pillar coupes of 1917 and '18 had sidelamps. The folding top couplets of 1915/'16/'17 had them. And, a very few early 1919 model suicide door coupes manufactured in late 1918 actually had the oil sidelamps. Any T coupe after 1919 that has sidelamps? Has had them added since the car left the factory.
I had a 1924 coupe for a few years, so as I looked at many hundreds of era photographs of model Ts, I paid extra attention to the 1924/'25 coupes. I never saw one that had the Ford oil sidelamps in an era photo. I have only seen a very few model T coupes from the 1920s that had after-market added on electric sidelamps.

Thanks Wayne. I could not ever remember seeing a 23/25 coupe with factory type sidelights. But again I have not been looking for them. We looked at my 24 coupe and could not see how they could work easily. Dan.

Side lamps are for non starter/generator equipped cars, all closed cars should have come with starters from the factory in 1924.

When I purchased my 24 Coupe they were installed by previous owner.
Have left them on as I'm not ready to do body work on pillars.
Not factory but looks ok along with brass radiator shell.

The '17 and '18 Sedans had side lamps, looks good on them too!
